25 MW geothermal power-generation pilot in Kenya
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The proposed project is a 25 MW geothermal power-generation pilot in Kenya, integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), grid connection, plant control systems and environmental and social safeguards. Its purpose is to demonstrate a commercially replicable model for firm, low-carbon electricity and flexible grid services, while establishing a platform that could later be expanded toward a 50 MW or larger development.
Kenya is an established geothermal market. EPRA's report for the financial year ended 30 June 2025 recorded 943.7 MW of installed geothermal capacity and 5,718.15 GWh of geothermal generation, representing 39.51% of electricity generated during that period. This supports the strategic relevance of geothermal generation, but does not in itself establish the resource or commercial viability of this specific project.

Project Objectives and Scope
• Develop a 25 MW net geothermal generation facility, subject to resource confirmation and final design.
• Integrate a BESS to support ramping, short-duration dispatch, frequency/voltage support where technically and commercially permitted, and improved delivery flexibility.
• Secure a bankable power purchase agreement (PPA), eligible grid-services contract, or other legally approved offtake structure before financial close.
• Build local capability through Kenyan employment, training, supplier participation and community engagement.
• Create a repeatable development template for a potential 50 MW second phase or other suitable geothermal prospects.
